Somatic Group Therapy
Group Counselling
Because we’re literally wired to heal together.
Why group therapy?
Finding a circle of people who have your back and walk with you towards your best life is invaluable. We’re not supposed to go it alone, despite our culture’s obsession with figuring things out for ourselves.
In truth, we have social nervous systems that need others for wellbeing. Group therapy is a safe (and sometimes even fun) way to cultivate our wellbeing within a social context, just like our brains are wired to do.
Guided and supported by a qualified somatic therapist, within these relationships we’ll explore the theme of the week, build skills together, uncover patterns within ourselves and create new and lasting change for the better.
Who is it for?
Group therapy may be for you if you:
- Would like to focus on a specific area for a set time
- Are looking for a lower-cost way to access healing
- Want safe social interaction
- Recognise the power of shared experience
Please note, if you are experiencing intense emotional and/or psychological distress, group therapy may not be the most supportive option for you initially. To ensure you can get the most out of the group, our team will take a history and discuss options for your safest and most contained path of wellbeing.
How will it help me?
- Compassionate Sense of Self: Our blend of somatic mindfulness and group interaction fosters a compassionate self-awareness, so that you feel more confident, grounded, validated, resilient, and fulfilled.
-
Emotional Regulation: Regulation isn’t feeling calm, it’s feeling appropriate emotions at appropriate times and in appropriate amounts. In short, all the feelings are welcome, we just want you to not be controlled by them. Group therapy can help relieve distressing emotions such as loneliness, shame, emotional swings, and anger, while helping you to experience more joy, contentment, and satisfaction.
-
Overcome Challenges: So many of the struggles we face were planted in our earlier relationships. In group therapy, we get to see these patterns in real time, explore how they affect your life, and begin to create new, adaptive patterns to face challenges in a new way.
- Embodied Connection: In a somatic approach to group therapy, we know that just telling you to think different isn’t enough to help you achieve your goals. Learning how to experience connection and safety in the body is key to lasting change, and this is a central part of each session no matter the focus.
-
Deeper Relationship Skills: Within our supportive community you’ll learn even more about how you relate to others for safer, closer relating.
We heal better together.
Our fun, gentle approach brings together the power of interpersonal healing with somatically-oriented psycheducation and skill building for more aliveness, increased resilience, and presence.
